SOUP CURRY

When you’re choosing from the wide variety of dishes on offer in Sapporo, soup curry is a great place to start—it’s not too heavy and not too light. Unlike the classic Japanese curry, soup curry is known for its thick cuts of fresh, colorful vegetables, light broth and dozens of spices.
Soup curry was born in Sapporo roughly 50 years ago. It’s now one of Sapporo’s soul foods, with over 200 specialty soup curry restaurants around the city. Each one creates a unique flavor that reflects the chef’s taste, and every Sapporoite has their own favorite spot. The irresistible umami-packed broth can be made from many different bases, such as seafood, meat or vegetables. It’s so good that you’ll want to slurp up every last drop.

REVIEWS

  • I’m not a huge fan of curry, but soup curry was a game-changer. I enjoyed the rich flavor of the broth and all the extra vegetables and toppings it comes with. I’ve never tried anything like this before. It’s a very heartwarming meal, so I can see why it is one of Sapporo’s soul foods.
