Attached to a candy factory, Royce’ Cacao & Chocolate Town is a fun hands-on amusement facility by Royce, one of Hokkaido’s flagship confectioners. It’s a great place for learning while experiencing an actual chocolate manufacturing process. During the factory tour (entry fee required), you’ll observe how cacao transforms into delicious final products. Various activities are available, as well as a special floor for kids to play. A workshop is offered to tour participants at an additional fee. Enjoy decorating your own designs and creating your own original chocolates! The manufacturing process is reconstructed in a small laboratory, making quite the sophisticated display. Original gift boxes are available for the chocolate you create. The fee for the workshop is 1,500 yen per person (for both adults and children); tours are on a first-come-first-served basis (no reservations are taken.)
The gift shop and a café offer original products and menus for both adults and children to enjoy.

After a 10-minute drive from the Toda Memorial Park Cemetery, arrive at an area called Cassiopeia Hill. Facing the Japan Sea, both north and west sides are popular spots for sunset viewing. The park is completely surrounded by water and wheat fields, perfect settings for romantic sunsets sinking below the horizon of the sea. Please keep in mind that the sun sets earlier in the fall in Hokkaido – 5:16pm on October 1st and 4:26pm on November 1st. Departing Sapporo in September around 1:00pm gets you here 15 minutes prior to sunset. Depart 30 minutes earlier in October and an hour earlier in November to ensure you’ll have ample time to enjoy the sunset and views. There’s no artificial light around, making Cassiopeia Hill a perfect place to take photos of the night sky filled with stars. Make sure to dress warmly – the winds off the sea are strong and cold!
