ACTIVITIES IN JOZANKEI

Jozankei is one of Hokkaido’s best hot spring resorts, but it’s so much more too. Located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, it’s surrounded by thick virgin forest that is home to an incredible range of flora and fauna. There are all kinds of outdoor activities on offer, including mountain hiking, walks, horse riding and camping.
The breathtaking canyon walls make the Toyohira River a particularly stunning spot for rafting and canoeing. As you paddle down the upper reaches of the river, you’re surrounded by unspoiled scenery that cannot be reached by car or even on foot. The river passes so close to a waterfall that you can feel the spray on your face and the topography creates some bumps along the way. Fall is a great time for beginners—hop in a canoe and enjoy the red and yellow leaves reflected on the water as a gentle current carries you along. If you’re looking for a thrill, go rafting in early spring when the melted snow adds more water, creating extra force.
Jozankei Farm is a great place to enjoy delicious local produce—go fruit picking, prepare your own jam and make pizza from fresh vegetables harvested right on the farm.
